Interventions

After the evaluation process, it is time to decide whether to use a hearing aid and what kind of it.

At this point we get the impression of the ear of the patient.
If we chose a type of hearing aid BTE (behind the ear), we begin the run with a cast of each ear canal, which will be used for the section of the instrument. It is a painless procedure for which a soft silicone paste is used, duly mixed with the catalyst. It hardens in about 3-4 minutes.
Instead, if we chose a ITE (intracanal) unit type, the ear impression is used to structure the unit in its entirety. The choice depends on the nature of hearing loss, shape and size of the channel and, of course, personal preferences! When the device is ready it is time for the next appointment.

During application and programming phases, the equipment is optimized and set with the computer. Meanwhile we explain in detail how to enter, use and take care of the new equipment.
Before concluding the visit, we review the needs and expectations of your listening capability. Because the more the patient knows what to expect, the more likely he's going to get a good result from prosthetic-rehabilitation therapy.

In the following weeks additional meetings are expected to monitor the progress of the patient.
Getting used to the new device is a process that requires a few weeks time because you have to leave your ear, or better the brain, to get used to new sounds.
Our experience makes us prefer a gradual approach: as the patient becomes accustomed to amplification, we set the parameters adjusting and optimizing as needed.
Experience shows that after the adjustment period (about 4 weeks), the patient who has followed our instructions is willing to use hearing aids all day forgetting about having them on. For more difficult cases, hearing loss require a greater period of adjustment, but the results are equally positive.
